What are the benefits of cat toys?

There is an immense variety of physical, emotional and mental benefits when it comes to playtime for cats, and each toy has its own unique attributes!

A catnip toy is a simple yet effective way to trigger happy endorphins in your kitty's brain! The scent of catnip often induces your pet into a state of play - they'll roll all over the place, rub up against furniture (or anything, really) and sometimes even drool! Additionally, a great benefit of getting a catnip toy for your feline lies in the fact that its 100% non-toxic, so your fur-ever friend can have all the fun they want. Learn More

Cat wands are excellent toys for bonding, especially with a shy cat or new kitten! These long, and usually fluffy wands are great for engaging with your cat's hunting instincts when they are participating in indoor play. Wands are also easy and efficient toys for physical and mental health. They keep your cat's mind sharp and alert while encouraging movement and exercise.

Cat laser pointer toys are another one of our favourites. They're great for chasing away boredom, especially for indoor cats, but they provide other beneficial perks as well! Cats are predators by nature and it's important to mimic 'hunting' during playtime. Laser pointers are a fun way to stimulate your cat's instincts while creating an engagement in physical activity because they're small and fast - just like typical prey!

Cat tunnels, however, hold all the benefits in stimulating your cat mentally. Cats love exploring, particularly small and unusual spaces, and these tunnels are a perfect way to sate their curiosity. Adding a small, fluffy toy or puzzle inside the tunnel, could take playtime to a whole new level! Many cat parents favour tunnels as they happen to be incredibly engaging methods of play when their felines are home alone.

If you own more than one cat, tunnels can be a good method of diffusing tension between them. Although they can be social animals, most cats prefer having their own territory and space. That's why tunnels can be so handy - they create a safe, solo space for your cat to relax in when they feel the need for 'me time.'

What toys do cats like the most?

Every cat has their own tastes so sometimes it can be tricky finding the right toy for them. Knowing your cat's age, breed and personality can definitely make it easier!

Kittens prefer physical activity, so toys like wands or laser pointers are perfect for them. Older cats love cosy spaces, which is why cat tunnels are a great fit for them!

Catnip toys are an exciting source of entertainment and activity for any cat, making them a definite favourite!

Are toys important for cats?

Absolutely! Toys and playtime in general are vital for your cat's wellbeing, on a mental and physical level! Even just 15 minutes of play can reduce your pet's stress and release any pent-up energy.

If your feline isn't getting enough playtime or entertainment, their behaviour can turn aggressive and destructive. In short, this means that they'll direct all of that bottled up energy towards other objects, like your furniture or curtains. It should also be noted that without enough play, or any play at all, your cat could become depressed or anxious.

Some toys are also helpful when it comes to bringing a reclusive cat out of their shell. Cat tunnels allow for your pet to navigate their space at their own leisure. Whereas, cat wands are known to strengthen trust between a feline and their owner.

Can toys help cats and their owners bond?

Playtime, and the toys incorporated throughout its duration, makes for one of the best bonding exercises between cats and their humans! Playing with your pet one-on-one during playtime with a laser pointer toy or a cat wand is known as 'focused play' and is a vital part of the bonding process.

By observing your cat during playtime, you can learn their behaviours and quirks better! Playing with your pet regularly will also encourage them to come to you when they're bored as well as further foster the companionship between you!

Do cats get bored of the same toys?

They do! If your cat has constant access to all of their toys, they tend to lose interest in them - quickly. This makes it increasingly difficult to keep your cat entertained and occupied, especially when you're not at home.

The best way to avoid this is to keep your cat's toys hidden or in places where they won't be able to reach them (choose carefully, cats are notorious climbers). Catnip toys, play wands and other toys like balls are objects that your cat is most likely to get bored of easily and should always be placed away after playtime or when you're out of the house.

How can I prevent my cat from getting bored with their toys?

Feline experts state that the best way to prevent your cat from getting bored of their toys is by switching the items that they play and engage with regularly. This is usually referred to as 'toy rotation' and it's an important aspect of any kitty's home life.

For example, for three days, you could engage in cat wand play with your feline - then for the next three days you can switch things up by giving them a catnip toy instead. Continuously cycle through your toys in order to hold your cat's interest in their playtime objects.

Do cats like fluffy toys?

This is usually dependent on your cat's personality but most felines do enjoy them! Especially if these fluffy toys are small and compact. Occasionally, you may notice your cat carrying their toys around in their mouth. They do this because smaller, fluffier toys tend to mimic their prey!

Unfortunately, your cat may grow bored with toys such as these, but you can easily combat this by purchasing a variety of other play items to add to your feline's collection.

What are some unique toys for my cat?

While you can't quite go wrong with 'traditional' toys, our store does feature some pretty creative items that your cat won't be able to resist interacting with. Our number one has to be our cat circuit toys. Long, twisty items with strategically placed holes to mimic predator vs prey action.

By placing a ball inside, your cat is able to get the satisfaction of hunting without bringing a small animal or insect from outside into the house. If the ball gets stuck in the circuit, your feline will just have to get creative!

These circuits are incredibly mentally stimulating and they also allow your feline to act on their instincts. You could view it as something like a brain game, but for your cat!

We also have toys that physically mimic the small critters that your cat would typically hunt, such as geckos and mice! These toys also come with the option of containing catnip!
